PUPPY PRESCHOOL

What is Puppy Preschool and why do we need it?

The crucial learning and socialisation period for dogs is when they are between the ages of 8-16 weeks. It is during this time that Puppy Preschool can provide the tools to start your pup off on the right track and add to your enjoyment as a pet owner.

With a maximum of 6 puppies per class and our Hospital providing a safe and fun environment, our Puppy Preschool classes combine:

General health care advice - diet, exercise.
Training and obedience - basic commands.
Socialisation/interaction - with people and dogs.
Toilet training advice - no more 'oops'!
Familiarisation with the hospital - making visits less stressful.
Troubleshooting - addressing any problems.
Tricks and games.

So what happens at Puppy Preschool?

Our Puppy Preschool course consists of five, one-hour classes, held weekly at our Drummoyne Clinic. Classes focus on socialisation opportunities and many different training commands are taught each week.

WEEK ONE - Theory only. Pups are left at home this week. Course notes are handed out and explained thoroughly. Questions answered.
WEEKS TWO, THREE and FOUR - Training and obedience, dog psychology and body language, behaviour, diet, exercise, toilet training, environmental enrichment, settling exercises, grooming, hospital familiarisation, positive reinforcement methods, socialisation, 'servant v's leader' coaching tricks.
WEEK FIVE - Graduation week! Similar to previous classes, PLUS a "Graduation Pack" containing product samples and Graduation Certificate.

Our aim is to encourage your puppy to become a happy, relaxed member of the family and to provide you with all the information required to raise a happy, healthy dog. Nurses qualified as Puppy Preschool instructors run the classes. Comprehensive notes are provided as part of the course fee. These will assist you in continuing training at home. All hospital staff members are happy to help with any queries or problems you may be having regarding your puppy. Classes fill quickly, so bookings should be made as soon as you get your new puppy.

How do I enrol?

The only pre-requisite for Puppy Preschool is that your puppy must have its first vaccination before enrolling. We need proof of this, so bring your pup's vaccination certificate along to the class.

To enrol, you need to contact either of the clinics to find out when the next class is going to be held and make a booking. Your place in the class will not be confirmed until you have paid for the class up front. The classes are limited to 6 puppies per class and they do fill up fast. So try to pay for the class when you book your puppy in as the bookings run on a first in first served basis, and we don't want you to miss out. The five-week course costs $150.00 (includes GST).
